Shipping & Import Process

AutoLantic coordinates vehicle and automotive-parts shipping from the United States to Nigeria through independent transporters, freight forwarders, shipping lines, insurers, and destination service providers.

Every shipment is different. The final route, cost, documentation, and estimated delivery period depend on the item, departure port, destination, carrier availability, government requirements, and customer instructions.

How the Shipping Process Works

1. Confirm the Vehicle or Parts Order

Shipping begins only after the customer approves the selected vehicle or parts, applicable service terms, and estimated costs.

AutoLantic does not knowingly purchase or ship an item on a customer’s behalf without the required authorization and payment.

2. Verify the Item and Documents

Before transportation is arranged, we review the available transaction information and relevant documents. Depending on the shipment, this may include:

  • Vehicle identification number or chassis number
  • Seller or supplier invoice
  • Vehicle title or ownership documents
  • Parts descriptions and quantities
  • Inspection photographs or reports
  • Customer and consignee information
  • Destination and delivery instructions

Missing, incorrect, delayed, or restricted documents can prevent or delay export.

3. Arrange U.S. Inland Transportation

The vehicle or parts may need to be collected from a dealership, auction, private seller, supplier, warehouse, or other location and transported to an inspection facility, consolidation point, warehouse, or departure port.

Inland transportation costs depend on factors such as:

  • Pickup and delivery locations
  • Distance
  • Vehicle size and weight
  • Whether the vehicle operates
  • Urgency
  • Transporter availability
  • Storage or special-handling requirements

4. Complete Export Preparation

Before export, the shipment may require title review, ownership verification, government filings, port documentation, carrier booking, and other export procedures.

Vehicles must satisfy the applicable documentation and presentation requirements of U.S. Customs and the chosen port. Processing periods and port requirements may vary, so customers should not treat a preliminary sailing date as guaranteed.

5. Select the Shipping Method

Available shipping methods depend on the vehicle or parts, carrier, departure port, destination, and customer preference.

Common vehicle-shipping methods may include:

Roll-on/Roll-off shipping: A qualifying operable vehicle is driven onto and off the vessel. Personal property generally should not be placed inside the vehicle unless expressly permitted.

Container shipping: One or more vehicles or cargo items are secured inside a shipping container. This may provide additional enclosure and may be appropriate for valuable, non-operable, specialty, or combined shipments.

Automotive parts may be shipped by air freight, ocean freight, courier service, consolidated cargo, or another suitable method, depending on size, weight, value, urgency, and applicable restrictions.

AutoLantic will explain the available options for a particular request before the customer approves shipment.

Shipping Quotations

A shipping estimate may include some or all of the following:

  • Seller-location pickup
  • U.S. inland transportation
  • Storage
  • Loading or handling
  • Export documentation
  • Freight-forwarder charges
  • Port and terminal charges
  • Ocean or air freight
  • Cargo insurance
  • Destination-port expenses
  • Customs duties and taxes
  • Clearing-agent fees
  • Local delivery in Nigeria

Unless expressly stated otherwise, a preliminary estimate does not guarantee the final total. Carrier rates, exchange rates, fuel charges, government assessments, storage, demurrage, inspection, port charges, and destination expenses may change.

We will identify which quoted costs are included and which remain payable separately whenever reasonably possible.

Estimated Shipping Time

Shipping and delivery periods are estimates, not guaranteed dates.

The overall process may include time for:

  • Seller document release
  • Payment confirmation
  • Inspection or verification
  • Title processing
  • Inland transportation
  • Export filing and customs processing
  • Port acceptance
  • Vessel availability
  • Ocean transit
  • Destination customs clearance
  • Vehicle or cargo collection

Delays may result from documentation problems, seller actions, carrier changes, vessel schedules, port congestion, customs procedures, weather, mechanical problems, labor disruptions, security events, government action, or other circumstances outside AutoLantic’s reasonable control.

Cargo Insurance

Customers should consider appropriate cargo or marine insurance for vehicles and parts in transit.

Insurance availability, premiums, deductibles, exclusions, valuation, claim procedures, and compensation are governed by the insurer’s policy. Insurance does not necessarily cover every type of damage, loss, delay, personal property, mechanical failure, or pre-existing condition.

AutoLantic may help coordinate insurance when available but does not act as an insurer or guarantee that a claim will be accepted or fully paid.

Arrival and Customs Clearance in Nigeria

After arrival, the vehicle or cargo may be subject to customs examination, valuation, duties, taxes, port charges, clearing fees, storage, and other destination requirements.

Customs values, duties, taxes, restrictions, and procedures are determined by the responsible authorities and may change. AutoLantic cannot guarantee a particular customs valuation, duty amount, clearance period, registration outcome, or eligibility decision.

Destination clearance should be handled by an appropriately authorized clearing professional selected or approved by the customer.

Customer Responsibilities

The customer is responsible for:

  • Providing accurate identity, consignee, destination, and contact information
  • Reviewing and approving quotations before payment
  • Supplying requested documents promptly
  • Confirming destination-country eligibility and restrictions
  • Paying approved costs, duties, taxes, and destination charges
  • Selecting or approving the clearing and delivery arrangements
  • Collecting the shipment within the permitted period
  • Following carrier, port, customs, registration, and licensing requirements

Failure to provide information, instructions, documents, or payment promptly may cause delays and additional charges.

Tracking and Updates

AutoLantic will provide available updates during the sourcing and shipping process. Depending on the service providers involved, updates may include:

  • Purchase confirmation
  • Inspection or verification status
  • Inland-transport progress
  • Port delivery
  • Booking or vessel information
  • Departure confirmation
  • Estimated arrival
  • Document availability

Tracking information and estimated arrival dates may be supplied by third parties and can change during transit.

Damage, Loss, or Delivery Concerns

Customers should inspect a vehicle or shipment as soon as reasonably possible after release or delivery and promptly document any concern with photographs, video, delivery records, and written notice.

Claims involving a carrier, insurer, port, transporter, seller, or other service provider are subject to that provider’s deadlines, evidence requirements, exclusions, and procedures.

Normal transportation dirt, minor handling marks, pre-existing defects, mechanical problems, and ordinary used-vehicle wear may not constitute insured shipping damage.

AutoLantic coordinates sourcing and related logistics but is not the shipping line, customs authority, port operator, insurer, or destination clearing authority.

The precise services, costs, responsibilities, and exclusions for a particular transaction will be stated in the applicable quotation, invoice, authorization, or service agreement.
